Zinzānat Ḥayy al-Daqqāqīn (The Cell of the Millers’ Quarter) is a haunting Syrian novel by Usāmah Shākir, published in 2023 by Sameh Publishing. تدور أحداث زنزانة حيّ الدّقاقين في أحياء دمشق القديمة، في الفترة الممتدة من سبعينيات القرن العشرين المنصرم وحتى أواخر العقد الثاني من القرن الحادي والعشرين، وهي الفترة حالكة السواد، والأشدّ قسوة في تاريخ سوريا الحديث. في حيّ الأمين الدمشقي العريق، نشأ أصدقاء الطفولة الثلاثة مرتضى وسليم وجعفر، وخاضوا معاً، وكلّ على انفراد، مغامرات الطفولة وشقاوتها، وتشابكت مصائرهم ثم افترقت وتصادمت، فسلك كلّ منهم اتجاهاً مختلفاً في الفكر والعلاقات والعمل، ثمّ قادتهم سبل الحياة إلى خواتيم معظمها مأساوي.تتجلى في الرواية صورة دمشق وروحها كمدينة للحياة والتعدّد والتجارة؛ مدينة تتنفّس برئتين خضراوين تبرّدان الهواء الحارّ القادم من الصحراء، وترقص أشجارها ترحيباً بالقادمين، ولا يشغلها سوى المحافظة على دورها الذي ألفته دائماً؛ وهو الإبقاء على جذوة الحياة مشتعلة، والمحافظة على دوران عجلة العمل والتجارة. يساعدها في ذلك طبائع الدمشقيين؛ من لطف في التعامل، وانفتاح اجتماعي نسبي، وميل إلى المجاملة، بالإضافة إلى تنوعهم العرقي والديني كمسلمين سنّة وشيعة ومسيحيين ويهود.
