Most of Shakespeare's plays were performed during his lifetime, and some of them were also published, but people in Shakespeare's time considered these works of his not to be considered high literature, but rather entertainment, and did not attach much artistic value to them. Shakespeare's name first entered the world of English literature with the publication of these two poems, Venus and Adonis (1593) and The Rape of Lucretia (1594), and it was with these poems that he became famous and wealthy during his lifetime. It is not possible to accurately understand Shakespeare's personality and thoughts without studying and examining his poems, which are so-called "non-dramatic poems." After translating three poems, The Sonnets (1609), The Lover's Complaint (1609), and The Phoenix and the Moon (1601), the translator of this book now presents the translation of the two poems, Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucretia, along with their commentary and English text, to those interested.
