Alles Umsonst: Roman, the last work of Walter Kamboski is a German writer. The main part of the story takes place in January 1945 in the mansion of the von Globig family in East Prussia, shortly before the invasion of the Red Army and the beginning of the escape and forced migration. This novel shows how people who have nothing in common face the imminent danger of the Red Army's attack and how the difficulty and dangers of the situation change each person's relationship with others, depending on their personality. Komboski uses details like repeated passages of music, and the whole book is like a piece of music that starts slowly, goes on stubbornly, and finally reaches a tremendous climax.
