Az bāzgasht tā eʿdām: Ḥezb-i Tūdeh-yi Īrān va inqilāb-i Bahman 1357 Persian 2025

The book From Return to Execution: the Tudeh Party of Iran and the February 1979 Revolution, written by Shiva Farahmand-Rad, was published in spring 2025 and offers a documented account of the fate of the Tudeh Party following its public return after the revolution. Drawing on Persian, Russian, English, German, and Azerbaijani Turkish sources, the author seeks to explain why the Tudeh Party aligned itself with the Islamic Republic of Iran after the revolution, only to later face widespread repression.

The book emphasizes that the security institutions of the Islamic Republic had deeply infiltrated the party long before the waves of arrests and crackdowns. At the same time, it examines the role of the Soviet Union, the KGB, and the position of Noureddin Kianouri in shaping the party’s major strategic decisions. The work also offers a critical assessment of the party’s anti-imperialist strategy and its human and organizational consequences.
