The Star Rover (also published as The Jacket) is a lesser-known novel by Jack London that recounts the story of Darrell Standing, a university professor convicted of murder and imprisoned in a California penitentiary, where he is subjected to torture and prolonged solitary confinement. In order to escape the intense physical and psychological pressure, Standing learns to dissociate his mind from his body and to travel through his past lives.
