ʿArūḍ va Qāfīyah-yi ʿArabī: Talfīq-i ‘arūż-i Khalīl va ‘arūż-i jadīd Persian 9/15/2025

The prosody of Khalil, with a history spanning more than twelve centuries, remains effective and capable of describing many features of Arabic poetic meter. Therefore, the author of this book does not aim to oppose Khalil’s method but rather seeks to modernize this genius’s approach and fill certain gaps within it. Accordingly, alongside addressing the prosody of modern poetry—and without denying the usefulness of sabab (short syllable) and watad (long syllable)—the author replaces the traditional system of mutaḥarrik and sākin with a syllabic description. Moreover, without abandoning the concepts of ziḥāf and ʿillah, he employs the term “metrical license” (jawāz waznī) to describe poetic variations and the term “metrical distinguisher” (mummyiz waznī) to identify the meters of each poetic form (baḥr).

In addition to its research goals, this book offers practical instruction in Arabic prosody and rhyme through numerous tables and diverse examples, covering levels from introductory to advanced. The writing of this book is the result of twenty years of continuous research and teaching in Arabic prosody and rhyme.
