Farzāneh Khalvat-Gozīn: Yādmān-i Ustād Mīrshams al-Dīn Adīb Solṭānī Persian 9/15/2025

After the passing of Master Adib Soltani, that “wise and reclusive sage,” his students and admirers, during various funeral and commemoration ceremonies, spoke about different aspects of his scholarly and moral character. After the fortieth-day memorial, it was decided that those speeches should be transcribed. To this end, the compiler requested both the speakers at those ceremonies and other scholars who had not had the opportunity to attend or speak, to share their ethical recollections and scholarly notes for inclusion in a single volume.

The result of that effort—after much correspondence and repeated requests—is the very collection now before the readers. It is evident that the quality and scope of this compilation cannot fully reflect the stature of so great a scholar as Adib Soltani, for one of his many achievements was the revitalization of the expressive capacities of the Persian language in order to revive Iranian thought and foster dialogue with the world of ideas. Nevertheless, we consider this modest work a starting point for the extensive and profound research that will undoubtedly follow.

This collection is divided into two parts:
The first part contains essays that are either directly related to Dr. Adib Soltani and his works or were delivered during his funeral and commemoration ceremonies.
The second part consists of essays by distinguished scholars who may not have had a direct connection to Dr. Adib Soltani but, out of respect for that reclusive sage, have graciously contributed their writings to this volume.
