The present book is a collection of short stories, colorful and selected from the writers of five continents of the world; Despite the diversity of cultures, nationalities and territories, they are all a reflection of the hardships and difficulties of human life as well as human efforts in facing difficulties. The story from which the name of the book is also taken is written by "Alexander Godin", an American writer of Russian descent, about whom the author says: "Godin" did not last long. But this story was chosen by "John Updike" in the collection of the best American short stories of the century. It is a very beautiful story." In a part of the story "My Dead Brother Comes to America", we read: "It was winter when we arrived at New York Bay. Heavy snow covered the ground and it was as if the entire harbor was painted with a powerful brush stroke. We were standing on the deck, the sun was shining above us and all the whiteness of our eyes was hitting us."

کتاب حاضر، مجموعه داستان های کوتاهی است رنگارنگ و برگزیده از نویسندگان پنج قاره جهان؛ باوجود گوناگونی فرهنگ، ملیت و سرزمین ها، جملگی بازتابی هستند از تنگناها و دشواری زندگی بشری و نیز تلاش های انسان در رویارویی با دشواری ها. داستانی که نام کتاب نیز از آن گرفته شده، نوشته «آلکساندر گودین» نویسنده آمریکایی روس تبار است که مولف درباره او می گوید: ««گودین» عمرش چندان نپایید. اما این داستان او را «جان آپدایک» در مجموعه بهترین داستان های کوتاه آمریکایی قرن انتخاب کرد. داستانی به غایت زیباست.» در بخشی از داستان «برادر مرده ام به امریکا می آید» می خوانیم: «زمستان بود که به خلیج نیویورک رسیدیم. برف سنگینی زمین را پوشانده بود و انگار همه بندرگاه با حرکت قدرتمند قلم مویی رنگ شده بود. روی عرشه ایستاده بودیم، آفتاب بالای سرمان می تابید و این همه سفیدی چشممان را می زد».
