The Rostamians of Iranian descent were foreign imams of the Abadi religion who migrated from the current land of Iraq to North Africa and established an Abadi Islamic government in North Africa in the capital of Tiaret (Tahert) of Algeria from 777 to 909 AD and intended to rise and overthrow the ruler of Tripoli, Abbas Totun. They said that Rostamian had the support of the Amazigh people of North Africa known as Nafusiya. The name of this dynasty is taken from Abdul Rahman bin Rostam bin Bahram bin Sam bin Kasri.

رستمیان دودمانی ایرانی‌تبار از امامان خارجی اباضی مذهب بودند که از سرزمین فعلی عراق به شمال آفریقا مهاجرت و در شمال آفریقا به پایتختی تیارت (تاهَرت) الجزایر از ۷۷۷ تا ۹۰۹ میلادی یک حکومت اسلامی اباضی برپا نموده و قصد قیام و براندازی عباس طوطون حاکم طرابلس را داشتند رستمیان از حمایت آمازیغی‌های شمال آفریقا موسوم به نفوسیه برخوردار بودند. نام این دودمان از عبدالرحمن بن رستم بن بهرام بن سام بن کسری گرفته شده‌است.
