He was the author of the court secretary and coach of Mohammadwali Mirza and held the position of adviser during the prince's rule in Khorasan. مؤلف منشی دربار و مربی محمدولی میرزا بوده و هنگام حکومت شاهزاده در خراسان سمت مشاور داشته است. این اثر از منابع با ارزش دوره نخستین فرمانروایی قاجارها، به ویژه عهد فتحعلیشاه و وقایع مربوط به دورة حکومت محمدولی میرزا در خراسان یعنی سالهای 1218ـ 1231 است. همچنین اشرفالتواریخ منبع مفیدی برای اطلاع از وقایع مربوط به آخرین بازمانده سلسلة افشاری یعنی نادر میرزا در خراسان و نیز درگیریهای قاجارها با امرای خراسان و ترکمانان و ایلات و طوایف سرکش بخشهای شمالی خراسان در دوره تثبیت دولت قاجار است.
