Americans are proud of their long history of a democratic electoral system. Despite this, few Americans, and even fewer observers from other countries, actually understand the American election process. Most citizens evaluate the democratic systems of other democracies according to their own criteria. But common democracies have different types. What is common among democratic systems is that citizens vote to choose those who are going to take over the administration of affairs. In some cases, they also choose administrators, legislators, and judges. In some countries, voters elect national, regional, and local officials; But in others, only some of these people are elected by the people. It is important that citizens can evaluate the performance of those whose decisions directly affect their lives.
