Home is a play by David Storey. It takes place in a mental asylum, although this fact is gradually revealed as the story progresses. The four main characters are Harry, the very handsome Jack, the cynical Marjorie, and the loving Catelyn. As they interact, we realize that their delusions and pretensions are similar to those of people living in a seemingly normal society. Although these characters are in a mental hospital, their delusions are not dissimilar to ordinary people in society. House, written in 1970, was staged in London, Broadway, and Moscow and was recognized as the best play of the year by the New York Critics Association. According to the Guardian, House is one of the best modern plays. The theme of David Storey's plays revolves around alienation more than anything else: alienation of class from its own class, individual from individual, human from self, reality from ideal, etc. These different forms of alienation can be found in the play of the House.
