بیست و یک داستان کوتاه تشکیل دهنده این کتاب است. گویش محلی شیرازی در اولین داستان- راشه- به چشم می آید: «شب عروسی برایش چای دو رنگ بردم. کوچکه یه بیست تومنی نو گذاشت کنار سینی و استکان رو برداشت و لاجرعه هورت کشید. اما راشه لب تر نکرد. مواظبش بودم همه اش به اندازه «ها» که بگه لباش از هم فاصله داشت... می گفتن لوله رنگو وقتی رفته بوده اشکلک دید وکوچکه رو مجبور کرده یکی برایش بخره. کوچکه گفت از بی گوشتی مردیم بریم؟ گفتم بریم. برف تا کمرمون می رسید. ابر از زمین تا آسمونو پر کرده بود. شول همی طوره آدم یا بالای ابره یا قاطی ابره. هنوزم که هنوزه قصابی نداره سالی به دوازده ماه بوی گوشت سرسیخ حسرت رو دله. همی شد که یکی یه حسن موسی رو کول انداختیم و دست به کمر، خم، از شیب تند جیر محله راه افتادیم رو به بالا...» داستان های دیگر این مجموعه «آقای دوست داشتنی»، «چاره ای نیس»، «باید خودم را جا بگذارم»، «خنده ها و پنجره خاکستری»، «خواهر مرگ»، «درویش و بانو»، «رنگ تلخ»، «دوشنبه ها» و ... هستند که مهناز کریمی از سال ها پیش برای انتشار آن را آماده کرده بود اما به دلایلی منتشر نشدند. «مهناز کریمی» نویسنده شیرازی مقیم آمریکا پیش از این رمان «سنج و صنوبر» را منتشر کرده است.
