Michel Strogoff is a novel written by Jules Verne, first published in 1876. A thirty-year-old man from the city of Omsk named Michel Strogov is one of the letter couriers for the Russian Tsar, Alexander II. One of the Tatar princes has started a rebellion and by cutting the telegraph lines, he has separated the communication of the eastern regions of Russia from the mainland. The rebels have surrounded the city of Irkutsk; A city ruled by one of the Tsar's brothers. Strogov is sent to Irkutsk to warn the ruler of the city about a traitor named Ivan Ugarov. Ogarev, a former government colonel who was deposed and exiled, is now back for revenge. He plans to gain the ruler's trust and then hand him over to the Tatar forces.
