اين كتاب، پژوهشي ممتاز درباره ي سفر برزو به هند، منشاء كليله و دمنه و بررسي هاي متن شناسانه ي اين اثر ارجمند است و نويسنده با مراجعه به اصل متن سنسكريت و تحريرها و ترجمه هاي كهن و متاخر سرياني و عربي و عبري و لاتين و اسپانيايي كليله و دمنه، و برخي متون تبتي و چيني، از راه مقايسه ي صوري و معنايي اين تحريرها، به نتايج و نظرياتي بديع درباره ي خاستگاه حكايات اين كتاب، نويسنده يا نويسندگان آن، تاريخ گردآوري، ترجمه ي آن به فارسي ميانه و از اين زبان به سرياني كهن و عربي دست يافته كه بخش قابل ملاحظه اي از تحقيقات پيشينيان را دگرگون مي كند يا دست كم صحت آنها را مورد ترديد قرار مي دهد.
