Tārīkh-i mujassamah sāzī dar Īrān Persian 2013

This illustrated book examines the history of Iranian sculpture across a long span, from Farhād Kūhkan to Ali-Akbar Hajjār—a historical distance of nearly fourteen centuries. Tanavoli shows how, throughout much of Iran’s history, sculpture—unlike some other art forms—faced social and cultural restrictions, neglect, and caution, and how sculptors rarely achieved a status comparable to that of other artists.

At the same time, the book demonstrates how this art form persisted despite such difficulties and, in the modern era—especially alongside other visual arts—has attained a recognized and consolidated position.
