George Orwell (real name: Eric Arthur Blair, born *June 25, 1903, British India – died January 21, 1950, London) was a renowned British writer, journalist, social critic, and intellectual whose clear, analytical, and cautionary prose made him one of the most influential literary figures of the 20th century. His works critique totalitarianism, censorship, poverty, and social inequality, drawing inspiration from his lived experiences in the Spanish Civil War and among the working class. His most famous books, Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four, offer chilling portrayals of oppressive regimes and thought control. Other notable works include Homage to Catalonia, Coming Up for Air, and Burmese Days. جورج اورول (نام اصلی: اریک آرتور بلر، زادهٔ *25 ژوین 1903، هند بریتانیا – درگذشتهٔ 21 ژانویه 1950، لندن) نویسنده، روزنامه‌نگار، منتقد اجتماعی و روشنفکر برجستهٔ انگلیسی بود که با نثری صریح، تحلیلی و هشداردهنده، به یکی از تأثیرگذارترین چهره‌های ادبیات قرن بیستم تبدیل شد. او در آثارش به نقد توتالیترسم، سانسور، فقر، و نابرابری اجتماعی پرداخت و تجربهٔ زیسته‌اش در جنگ داخلی اسپانیا و زندگی در طبقات فرودست، الهام‌بخش بسیاری از نوشته‌هایش شد. از آثار مهم او می‌توان به قلعهٔ حیوانات (Animal Farm) و 1984 (Nineteen Eighty-Four) اشاره کرد که هر دو تصویری هولناک از حکومت‌های سرکوبگر و کنترل ذهن ارایه می‌دهند. دیگر آثار او شامل درود بر کاتالونیا، هوای تازه، و روزهای برمه هستند. اورول با نگاهی اخلاقی و سیاسی، ادبیاتی خلق کرد که هنوز هم در تحلیل قدرت، حقیقت و آزادی خواندنی و هشداردهنده است
