Jon Fosse (born September 29, 1959, Haugesund, Norway) is a celebrated Norwegian author, playwright, poet, and translator known for his minimalist, lyrical, and introspective style. He has written over 70 works including novels, poems, plays, children’s books, and essays, translated into more than 50 languages. Fosse’s acclaimed plays such as Someone Is Going to Come, The Name, and Night Sings Its Songs, along with novels like Septology, A Shining, and Morning and Evening, have made him a unique voice in postmodern literature and post-dramatic theatre. In 2023, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for “his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable.” His works often explore themes of existence, death, faith, and solitude through silence, repetition, and pared-down language.
