J.K. Rowling (Joanne Rowling, born July 31, 1965, Yate, England) is a British author, screenwriter, and philanthropist best known for creating the Harry Potter series. This seven-book saga, chronicling the life of a young wizard and his battle against dark forces, has been translated into over 80 languages and sold millions of copies worldwide. Rowling’s blend of imagination, morality, and character development drew an entire generation into the world of reading. Her other works include The Ickabog, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and the Cormoran Strike detective series (written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith). She is also actively involved in charitable and social causes.
