Victor I. Stoichita

Victor I. Stoichita was educated in Bucharest, Rome, Munich, and Paris. He has taught at numerous European and American universities and has held fellowships at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, the Getty Center for the Humanities, the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin, and the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts in Washington, D.C. Since 1991, he has been teaching Art History at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.

Stoichita is a Foreign Member of the Accademia dei Lincei in Italy and an Associate Member of the Académie Royale de Belgique. He is the author of numerous art historical books, many of which have been translated into a dozen languages. His memoir, Oublier Bucarest (2014), was awarded by the Académie Française.
