Guillaume Gallienne

Guillaume Gallienne (born February 8, 1972, in Paris) is a French actor, screenwriter, and film director. He has received two Molière Awards for his stage work and two César Awards for his autobiographical comedy film Me, Myself and Mum (2013).

From childhood, Gallienne faced personal challenges and bullying from classmates, and after a nervous breakdown, he was sent to England. The death of a cousin motivated him to take up acting at the age of 19. He studied at Cours Florent and the French National Academy of Dramatic Arts, graduating in 1998.

He began his film career in 1992 and appeared in the film Marie Antoinette (2006). His one-man stage show Boys and Guillaume, to the table! won the Molière Award for Best Newcomer, and the following year he received the award for Best Supporting Actor for the play Un fil à la patte. Gallienne has also worked in ballet, adapting the librettos for Caligula and Illusions perdues.

His film Me, Myself and Mum won multiple awards at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for ten César Awards, winning five, including Best Actor and Best Adaptation.

Gallienne has been a member of the Comédie-Française since 1998 and became an official member in 2005. In November 2008, he was named Knight of the National Order of Merit, and in early 2013, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters. Since September 2009, he has hosted the weekly literary program Ça peut pas faire de mal on France Inter.
