Najaf Daryābandarī: Yik Purtrah va Sah Guft'va'gū: Persian 1403

This book can be considered a biography of one of the greatest and most respected translators of Persian literature. Najaf Daryabandari (1920-1990) is a name that appears on the cover of every book, encouraging readers to read. But Daryabandari's reputation and fame are not limited to his work as a translator. He was a meticulous critic in the field of literature and art, a skilled writer, and a meticulous editor. His life also had many ups and downs, so that it can be said that he lived not one life but several lives. The first dialogue in the present book ("Conversation on Life") focuses on Najaf's life from his childhood to his middle age: the atmosphere of Najaf's family and his captain's father's life, the story of his membership in the Tudeh Party and the troubles that followed, the roots of his interest in literature, the beginning of learning the language on his own, translating books in prison, his collaboration with the Franklin Institute and Ebrahim Golestan, the publisher's interactions with intellectuals of the time, and other such topics will be reviewed in this section of the book. The second dialogue ("Conversation on Literature") focuses on more or less theoretical discussions, and in it we can get acquainted with Daryabandari's general views on literature and art, including his opinion on contemporary Persian literature and specifically the fictional works of this period. In the third conversation (“A Conversation About Translation”), the reader will learn about Daryabandari’s theoretical views and practical experiences in the work of translation. The book is completed by a portrait of Daryabandari (from the perspective of one of his close associates), and it shows the reader another aspect of his life. “The bottom line is that Daryabandari was influential in every field he wrote about and brought about fundamental changes. If Najaf is important, it is in bringing about these changes.”
