Kay Khosrow is one of the most distinguished and beloved kings in the Shahnameh.
He is the son of the Iranian hero Siyâvash and the Turanian princess Farangis, and he symbolizes justice, wisdom, and the ideal form of kingship. His lineage combines two rival worlds: from his father, he inherits the royal bloodline of Iran, and from his mother, he is the grandson of Afrâsiâb, the greatest enemy of the Iranians.

After Siyâvash is unjustly killed by Afrâsiâb, Kay Khosrow is born in Turan under extremely dangerous circumstances. Fearing that the son of Siyâvash will one day seek revenge, Afrâsiâb sees him as a grave threat to his future. Therefore, Farangis and Piran Viseh—a wise warrior and loyal friend of Siyâvash—hide the child for years and raise him in remote regions to keep him safe from Afrâsiâb’s reach.

This new edition of The tale of Giv and Kay Khosrow, illustrated by Mohammad-Ali Keshavarz and rewritten by Maziar Baghlani and Eilnaz Ebrahimi, is published by Barf Publishing for young readers.
