The Train with No Station is a humorous novel by Turkish author Behçet Ak, telling the story of a village with an abandoned mine and people who quarrel over the smallest things. Although Ak’s novels are mainly written for children and young readers, the characters in this story, the events that happen to them, and the atmosphere of their lives closely resemble the everyday life of people of all ages — even here in Iran.

Between the lines of The Train with No Station, we seem to see our own grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and neighbors — a scene that feels both familiar and universal. There’s an old dog that sometimes behaves strangely, a woman who returns to her grandfather’s house with curious dreams, a boy who boasts too much, a man tired of retirement, and a small train that no one — neither young nor old — ever wants to get off.
