There are few Iranians who do not feel proud that they still speak Persian when they hear the name "Shahnameh". کمتر ایرانی است که با شنیدن نام «شاهنامه» از اینکه هنوز به زبان فارسی سخن می‌گوید احساس افتخار نکند. دکتر سبحانی منبع تصحیح شاهنامه را نسخه‌ی مشهور و پرطرفدار چاپ مسکو قرار داده است. مهم‌ترین خصوصیاتی که کتاب حاضر را کاربردی و مطالعه‌ی آن را راحت می‌کند، یکی توضیح سلیس لغات مهجور و نامأنوسی است که بر اثر مرور زمان از زبان حذف شده یا کمتر به کار می‌رود و دومی کشف‌الابیات بسیار خوش‌دستی است که مراجعه به هر قسمت از حماسه را سریع و آسان کرده است. از دیگر ویژگی‌های کتاب حاضر، چاپ چهارده مینیاتور نفیس از شاهنامه‌ی شاه اسماعیلی از گنجینه‌ی موزه‌ی رضا عباسی برای اولین بار در ایران است.
