The Blue Side of the Sky by Javad Alavi is the second volume of a trilogy exploring the Iranian Revolution of 1979 through memory, dreams, and the unrealized possibilities of social change. Following the first volume, Lead to Evil, published by Asmana Books in 2025, this novel examines the revolution from the perspective of prison and through the complex relationship between a writer and his interrogator.

After the writer’s release and the end of the Iran–Iraq War, the revolutionary experience reappears through new visions of change, this time within the sphere of family and personal relationships. Through multiple narrators, the novel portrays different experiences of the post-revolutionary generation, their memories of the past, and their hopes for the future.

Blending fiction, theater, and historical reflection, The Blue Side of the Sky explores the human dimensions of revolution beyond political events. It presents a portrait of individuals shaped by the aftermath of revolution and examines how ideals, dreams, and disappointments continue to influence later generations.

Javad Alavi is a writer, literary critic, and researcher of Iranian fiction. He edited the Short Story series in Tehran (1999–2006), focusing on contemporary Iranian narrative literature and introducing young writers. He has also researched early Iranian fiction and Afghan fiction writers in Iran. His writings have appeared in several literary journals, and Asmana Books previously published his novel Lead to Evil.
