The book “Color and Mystery” by Irene Monique Salehi, published by Asemana in October 2025, is a poetic and artistic biography that explores memory, art, and the search for meaning. It is a personal narrative of life, death, migration, and family connections, told from the perspective of the Iranian-Canadian artist.

Drawing on her lived experiences and personal memories, Salehi reconstructs moments of joy and sorrow in her life through seven narrative paintings. Just as she seeks meaning through vibrant colors and modern silk-painting techniques in her artwork, in this book words become a medium for expressing emotions, memories, and reflections on the mystery of existence.

Irene Monique Salehi was born in 1954 in Paris. She studied art in Paris, Tehran, and Canada and has worked in silk painting for more than three decades. Since 1998, her works have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada. She has received several awards, including the Dr. Marcel Lemyieux Award from Sheridan College and the Martys Award in the Visual Arts category from the Mississauga Arts Council.

In Salehi’s artworks and writings, themes such as life, death, love, and the mystery of existence hold a central place. “Color and Mystery” is an exploration of meaning through the connection between color and words; the story of a person who, through memory, art, and the experience of migration, searches for inner light and a deeper understanding of life.
