In a land that was both a center of fierce opposition and the birthplace of some of the most steadfast defenders, history became a field of confrontation between faith and hostility.

This book offers a documented and analytical study of events relating to the “Blessed Cause” in the “Land of Kaf and Za,” namely Kerman, from the beginning of its emergence to the period of the Covenant. Three major currents of opposition played central roles in this region: the Kirmani Shaykhi movement, the Azalis, and the violators of the Covenant.

Drawing on historical sources, primary texts, and rarely examined documents, the author portrays the figures described as the “croakers” alongside steadfast believers. In the words of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, these believers may be regarded as examples of “those possessed of mighty valor,” souls who stood with exceptional courage and perseverance against storms of doubt, hostility, and accusation.

This work is not merely an account of religious and cultural conflict in one of the most important centers of Babi and Bahá’í history. It is also an attempt to understand the relationship between social conditions, intellectual developments, and the changing destiny of a community of faith over time. The Croakers and Those Possessed of Mighty Valor takes the reader into the depths of a history in which pen and sword, thought and faith, opposition and loyalty all came together to shape decisive events.
