Abdulrahman Munif is regarded as one of the greatest Arab writers of the twentieth century. Now… Here, or Once Again the Eastern Mediterranean is the ninth novel in his literary career. Each of his novels is devoted to a facet of the political and social life of the peoples of the region, and in this respect, he has played a pioneering and prominent role in the development of the political novel in the Arab world. His works are considered to have given identity and distinction to the generation of novelists following Naguib Mahfouz.

Written in 1991, this novel belongs to the literature of prisons and political struggles. Without mentioning any specific country, it addresses the conditions of detention centers in the Middle East, focusing particularly on the situation of activists and political prisoners in the authoritarian states of the Eastern Mediterranean. The novel vividly depicts the manifestations of oppressive regimes, the nature and face of tyrants and executioners, as well as the methods and techniques of suppression, torture, and the various cruelties and crimes inflicted upon prisoners.

Now… Here, or Once Again the Eastern Mediterranean is the last translation entrusted to Hermes Publishing by the late Mousa Eswar before his passing, and sadly, he did not live to see its publication.
