But since I have undertaken this work, I intend to give this history its full due and circle around every corner and hidden point, so that nothing of these events remains concealed—though the telling of this book grows long and may weary its readers.
Yet I hope, through their graciousness, that they will not count me among the tedious, for nothing is unworthy of being read; no tale is without some useful point.
