In the Pacific, a yacht, the Sloughi, is in distress. On board, were fifteen children aged eight to fourteen. Not one adult with them; the boat mysteriously broke its moorings in a port in New Zealand while the children were preparing to embark on a cruise, and the entire crew was on land. The storm throws the Sloughi onto reefs and the children, not without difficulty, arrive on a desert island. The long "holidays" begin... To survive, the children have nothing but their courage: they hunt, fish, invent traps, train animals, and cultivate. Alas! rivalries divide the small colony, characters clash, and the split is complete when fearsome bandits approach the shore. An implacable fight begins with children against men without faith or law... Multiple adventures, intelligence, and strength of character of the young heroes make Two Years of Vacation a beautiful and very endearing novel.
