The present book, the result of the search for Iran in the 90s, can be considered the decade of idle production. The economy was in a disastrous state and successive crises led to the systematic production of the army of the poor. It was in this decade that the concentration of poverty became the subject of numerous news reports and films and affected the media representation system. Many idlers were named for the first time: fuel carrier, coal carrier, garbage collector, salesman, and grave sleeper. These figures were already present in the geography of Iran, but it was in this decade that they became visible.

کتاب حاضر حاصل جست‌وجو ایرانِ دهه‌ی ۹۰ را می‌توان دهه‌ی تولید تهی‌دستی دانست. اقتصاد در وضعیتی فاجعه‌بار قرار گرفت و بحران‌های پیاپی منجر به تولید نظام‌مند لشکر فقرا شد. در همین دهه بود که متراکم‌شدن فقر سوژه‌ی گزارش‌های خبری و فیلم‌های پرشماری شد و نظام بازنمایی رسانه‌ای را تحت تأثیر قرار داد. تهی‌دستان زیادی برای نخستین‌بار اسم‌دار شدند: سوخت‌بر، کو ل‌بر، زباله‌گرد، دست فروش و گورخواب. این فیگورها قبلاً هم در جغرافیای ایران حاضر بودند، ولی در این دهه بود که رؤیت‌پذیر شدند.
