A collection of critical essays on the life and works of Samuel Beckett. Samuel Beckett, a contemporary Irish playwright, novelist, and poet, was born in Dublin in 1906 and died in Paris in 1989. He said little, and in his few words and writings, he pointed to the most basic human issues: what phenomena are, language and meaning, silence and sound, and death and life. He staged death in its most subjective form and at the same time fought heroically for the continuation of the objective presence of man in the realm of existence. It is surprising, but Beckett, this curtain holder of the most abstract ontological thoughts, this butler of silence, these enigmatic words, was a passionate partisan of the French resistance movement in World War II. The present book tries to present the works and thoughts of this contemporary writer through the mental essays of several professors and researchers of his works in the eyes of readers and those interested in Beckett's works. Translation of two essays "Life and Contexts" and "Beckett and Descartes" from David Petty's book, "Three Novels and Four Novels", "Identity Scenes" and "Dead Heads" from John Pilling's book, and also the essay "Samuel Beckett" by Jean-Jacques Mayo, are among the important contents of this book. In addition, this book will be a useful resource for literary-artistic researchers and scholars of performing arts and English literature.
