Safavid era Iran was on par with the powerful societies of its time, But this situation did not last and Iran's economic conditions deteriorated with the beginning of the development of capitalism in Europe, the imbalance between Iran and the West intensified and Iran stopped moving towards economic growth and development. Now, why did Iran stay out of Europe in spite of continuous communication with the Western world in a movement that started at the same time? And in other words, why did the fields of the industrial revolution that were created in the West not be possible in Iran? This book is an attempt to answer these questions from the perspective of institutionalism.

ایران عصر صفویه هم ‏تراز جوامع قدرتمند زمان خود بود؛ اما این وضع دوام نیاورد و شرایط اقتصادی ایران رو به زوال گذاشت و با شروع تکوین سرمایه ‏داری در اروپا، عدم توازن میان ایران و غرب تشدید شد و ایران از حرکت به سمت رشد و توسعه اقتصادی بازماند. حال چرا با وجود ارتباطات مداوم با دنیای غرب در حرکتی که به‌ صورت هم ‌زمان آغاز شد ایران از اروپا جا ماند؟ و به عبارت دیگر چرا زمینه ‏های انقلاب صنعتی که در غرب ایجاد شد، در ایران میسر نشد؟ این کتاب، کوششی است برای پاسخ دادن به این پرسش ‌ها از منظر نهادگرایی.
