لقد صار وجه «ابن ماجد» مألوفًا هنا بجسمه الضئيل وعمامته وضحكته، وقد سماه البرتغاليون «المعلم الفلكي». لم يستطيعوا نطق العبارة فخرجت من أفواههم «ماليمونكا»، كذلك حاولوا تسميته «أمير البحار» فخرجت الكلمة «الميرانتي».
الآن عرفت من أين جاء هذا الاسم الغريب، «الميرانتي» هو نفسه «أحمد بن ماجد».
