Ismail Kadare (born January 28, 1936, Gjirokastër, Albania – died July 1, 2024, Tirana) was a renowned Albanian novelist, poet, playwright, and intellectual whose works blend history, myth, politics, and satire, earning him global literary acclaim. Initially known for his poetry, he gained international fame with The General of the Dead Army. His major works include The Siege, Chronicle in Stone, The Palace of Dreams, The File on H., The Pyramid, The Fall of the Stone City, and The Three-Arched Bridge. Kadare’s layered, allegorical prose explored life under dictatorship, Albanian history, and human psychology. He defected to France in 1990, and his books have been translated into over 45 languages. He received prestigious awards such as the Man Booker International Prize, Jerusalem Prize, Neustadt Prize, and France’s Legion of Honour.
اسماعیل کاداره (زادهٔ 28 ژانویه 1936، جیروکاستر، آلبانی – درگذشتهٔ 1 ژوییه 2024، تیرانا) نویسنده، شاعر، نمایش‌نامه‌نویس و روشنفکر برجستهٔ آلبانیایی بود که با تلفیق تاریخ، اسطوره، سیاست و طنز، به یکی از چهره‌های جهانی ادبیات قرن بیستم و بیست‌و‌یکم تبدیل شد. او ابتدا با شعر شناخته شد، اما با رمان ژنرال ارتش مردگان به شهرت بین‌المللی رسید. از آثار مهم او می‌توان به قلعه، تاریخ‌نگاری در سنگ، کاخ رویاها، پروندهٔ ه.، هرم، سقوط شهر سنگی و پل سه‌طاقی اشاره کرد. کاداره با نثری استعاری، چندلایه و اغلب انتقادی، زندگی تحت دیکتاتوری، تاریخ آلبانی، و روان انسان را کاوید. او در سال 1990 به فرانسه پناهنده شد و آثارش به بیش از 45 زبان ترجمه شدند. کاداره برندهٔ جوایز معتبر جهانی از جمله بوکر بین‌المللی، جایزه اورشلیم، جایزه نوستاد و لژیون دونور فرانسه بود.
