Mario Vargas Llosa

Mario Vargas Llosa (born March 28, 1936, Arequipa, Peru – died April 13, 2025, Lima) was a renowned Peruvian novelist, journalist, critic, and politician, widely regarded as one of the leading figures of the Latin American literary boom. His works—marked by realism, political insight, and psychological depth—explored power structures, individual resistance, and societal crises. His most acclaimed novels include The Time of the Hero, The Green House, Conversation in the Cathedral, Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, Captain Pantoja and the Special Service, and The War of the End of the World. In 2010, Vargas Llosa was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for “his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual's resistance, revolt, and defeat”
