Il Bakhtiari in the Qajar period is a documentary about a critical period in the history of these people in the 13th century of Hijri. In the midst of the constitutional revolution in Iran, the British Empire penetrated to advance its economic interests in the mountainous areas between Iran and Iraq, which were previously inaccessible, and took actions such as building roads in the heart of the mountains, collecting geographical and ethnological information, and oil exploration. .
These plans caused the nomadic and autonomous peoples on the edge of the Qajar territory to join together in a wider area and connect with the global economy. As a result of these changes, the distance between the government and the people decreased, and of course these people did not remain passive in the face of these environmental and social changes; Sometimes they resisted British plans.

ایل بختیاری در دوره قاجار متنی است مستند درباره‌ی مقطعی خطیر از تاریخ این مردمان در قرن سیزدهم هجری. در بحبوحه‌ی انقلاب مشروطه در ایران، امپراتوری بریتانیا برای پیشبرد منافع اقتصادی خود در مناطق کوهستانی بین ایران و عراق، که پیشتر دسترس ناپذیر بود، رسوخ کرد و به اقداماتی چون احداث راه در دل کوه‌ها، گردآوری اطلاعات جغرافیایی و قوم‌شناختی و اکتشاف نفت دست زد.
این طرح‌ها سبب شد ایلات کوچ‌رو و خودمختار در حاشیه‌ی قلمرو قاجار در پهنه‌ای گسترده‌تر به هم بپیوندند و با اقتصاد جهانی نیز ارتباط بیابند؛ در نتیجه‌ی این تغییرات فاصله‌ی میان حکومت و ایلات هم کاهش یافت و البته این مردمان در برابر این دگرگونی‌های زیست‌محیطی و اجتماعی منفعل نماندند؛ گاه در برابر طرح‌های بریتانیا مقاومت می‌کردند. جنگ میان طوایف هم البته گه‌گاه رخ می‌داد.
آرش خازنی، برخلاف پژوهش‌های معمول که کانون توجه در آن‌ها طبقات اجتماعی شهری و مرکز سیاسی است، با بهره گرفتن وافر از تواریخ و وقایع‌نامه‌های فارسی، تواریخ ایلاتی و منابع آرشیوی در لندن و تهران و اصفهان، از چادر ایلنشینان به این وقایع نگریسته است و آن را در مرکز داستانی درباره‌ی سلسله‌ی قاجار قرار داده و به این ترتیب توانسته است خلئی را در تاریخ اجتماعی و فرهنگی ایران پر کند. پژوهش او نوری تازه بر روابط مرکز-پیرامون در دوره‌ی قاجار و نقش ایل بختیاری در انقلاب مشروطه می‌افکند.
