Examining the beauty of Persian calligraphy and the historical evolution of this beauty is a task that has almost never been done, but it is plagued by limitations that may be the result of the dominance of copyist and literary thought in Iran and among orientalists influenced by a perception unrelated to art and a mystical interpretation of it, which is naturally also in Iran. It has left its mark and we are very pleased. Still, the new findings of beauty criteria have not reached the historians of Iranian art history. This way of working has left its impact on us Iranians in the past fifty years, and easy acceptance and submission to popular beliefs has prevented us from getting the correct historical and artistic understanding.

ررسی زیبائی خط فارسی و تحول تاریخی این زیبائی کاری است که تقریبا انجام نشده، بلکه گرفتار محدودیت‌هائی است که شاید در ایران حاصل تسلط اندیشه‌ی نسخه‌شناسانه و ادیبانه و در میان خاورشناسان تحت‌تاثیر دریافتی بی‌رابطه با هنر و تاویلی عرفانی از آن است که طبعا در ایران هم اثر خود را گذاشته و ما را بسیار خوش آمده است. هنوز یافته‌های تازه‌ی معیار زیبائی به میان مورخان تاریخ هنر ایران نرسیده است. این طرز کار اثر خود را در پنجاه سال گذشته بر فکر ما ایرانیان گذاشته و آسان‌گیری و تسلیم باورهای روز و عوامی شدن، ما را از دریافت درست تاریخی و هنری بازداشته است.
