The Bedbug is a fictional and satirical work whose theme is the struggle against the remnants of the petty-bourgeois mentality in all its forms. In this play, Mayakovsky ridicules the post-New Economic Policy innovations in the Soviet Union. The main goal of Mayakovsky's satire is to show an element of the ruling class that is contaminated by the bourgeoisie and petty bourgeoisie.
