Five new stage texts from one of the country's leading playwrights, including an introductory essay.
The Father of the Mother's Child is about a father who has thrown away the traditional gender role pattern. His relationship with his daughter should be equal to that of his mother. But that is not the case. The father takes up the fight, for his daughter, and against the mother, who thrives on his daughter's favoritism.
In Sørsida, the extended family is gathered at the cabin on a sunny summer day. A dilemma, so small and innocent, could have been solved in the simplest way, but has disastrous consequences when emotions are allowed to play out.
In The Position, a public decision must be made. The decision appears as absurd as in Kafka's universe, but unlike Kafka, the writing style here is more realistic.
In The Cat, we meet two people who have lost touch with nature. It is winter and they see a cat in the garden. They do not know how the cat works, whether it can find food through the snow, whether it will freeze to death in the evening. The sympathy for the cat spreads to the spider, which has crept in. Then to the goldfish, then to the plant and to the stone in the garden. Over the course of the play, they have formed a new worldview.
The Child. The Boat. is about the different sides of a couple on the day they are to drop their son off at kindergarten for the first time. The play is a commissioned work from the Czech theatre Divadlo Feste.
