Tūnal Persiska (Farsi) 2026

Tunnel is a dark, suspenseful, and magical realist novel by Saeid Karafarin, published by Asmana Books. The story begins with an actor who plays the role of a ghost in a haunted tunnel and escapes the law by separating from his own body through a mysterious contract rather than a miracle.

Alongside this strange journey, another story unfolds in a timeless city: a girl whose dreams enter the world of waking life, shadows that detach from their owners, and people caught between death and the longing to continue living. Through these intertwined narratives, the novel explores the fragile boundaries between reality and illusion, memory and forgetting, life and death.

Blending dark humor, suspense, fantasy, and satire, Tunnel is a story about people who try to escape their past, only to discover that the past returns through hidden and unexpected paths. The novel examines themes of memory, love, guilt, identity, and the search for truth, presenting a haunting vision of a world where the tunnel may become humanity’s final refuge.

Saeid Karafarin was born in Tabriz and studied art and architecture. He previously published the short story collection The Dead Man in Room 24 (2003, Morgh-e Amin Publishing, Iran) and the graphic novel The Chronicle of the Fly (2011, Gardoon Publishing, Germany). Tunnel is his third work and his first novel published by Asmana Books in Toronto. Two other novels by him, Māti and The Journeys of the Narrators, are also forthcoming.
