The main narrative is told through Sara, a social worker and writer, who is in the process of writing a book about khūn-bas women, women given in marriage to settle blood feuds. After conducting numerous interviews with women who have fallen victim to this tradition, she realizes that Mrs. Dahlavi’s story is different from the others: a woman who emerged from the heart of that very custom, yet now lives in another city, educated and running her own music academy. This curiosity draws Sara to her home, and their long conversations gradually form the backbone of the book.
