«فریب شکوه و وسوسهٔ نجات، در روی یک سکهاند. شکوه درختی است که چشم را میزند تا زخمهای لایههای پنهان دیده نشوند. وسوسهٔ نجات نیرویی است که دستها را بهسوی همان درخشش میکشاند، بیآنکه به هزینههایش بیندیشد. اگر این متن بتواند، در میانهٔ این دو، خوانندهٔ بیتعصب، حتی خود شاهزاده را اندکی به مکث، اندکی به تردید وادارد، شک نسبت به پنداشت خوشبینانه از خطا ناپذیری، آنگاه رسالت خود را در این مسیر تار انجام داده است، زیرا آینده را نمیتوان بر سراب بنا کرد، حتا اگر تاجی زرین بر سر نهاده باشد.»
