Through distortion of events and facts, character assassination, labeling, deception, and the dissemination of one-sided or misleading information, such actors seek to steer individuals or communities—against their inner will, personal desires, and aspirations—toward accepting certain beliefs, convictions, and actions. Ultimately, the aim is to transform them into compliant and obedient subjects who do not perceive any coercion in their acceptance or behavior. On the contrary, they come to believe that what they have embraced is entirely their own choice.
