These are simple stories populated by ordinary people and shaped by everyday events. Yet in each narrative, the author seeks to view the Iranian individual from a different perspective, exploring the difficulties and complexities of an ostensibly "ordinary" life: its desires and temptations, its sorrows and small joys, its bonds and attachments, and ultimately its loneliness and sense of dislocation.

The stories in this collection stand independently of one another, yet there is a sense that human situations, relationships, and social roles are continually reconstructed in new forms across the narratives. This recurring pattern creates subtle connections between the stories and leaves a lasting impression on the reader.

Death, too, remains persistently alive throughout the collection. A man has died, and his wife continues to live through the days and years that follow his absence, while others gather around her in varying roles and relationships. This situation, reappearing from different perspectives and at different moments in time, provides a framework for examining patriarchal social structures as well as aspects of the history, traditions, and culture of contemporary Iran.
