Today, the belief that the Judeo-Christian scriptures are corrupt has become so widespread that it may seem strange to talk about the fact that this belief, like many other beliefs and ideas, had a turbulent history different from what we know today. This book shows how Muslims thought about this issue in the first centuries and how, over time and due to certain cultural, political and theological developments that took place in the Islamic world in the third century of Hijri, the early beliefs of Muslims in this field underwent changes and transformations. Finally, after two centuries, i.e. in the fifth century of Hijri, he formed this image in the way we know it today.

امروزه باور به محرَّف‌بودن کتب مقدس یهودی‌ـ‌مسیحی چنان فراگیر شده که ممکن است صحبت درباره‌ی اینکه این باور هم، مثل بسیاری دیگر از باورها و انگاره‌ها، تاریخی پرفرازونشیب و متفاوت از آنچه امروز می‌شناسیم داشته است، عجیب به نظر برسد. این کتاب نشان می‌دهد که مسلمانان در قرون نخستین درباره‌ی این موضوع چگونه می‌اندیشیده‌اند و چطور در گذر زمان و بر اثر تحولات فرهنگی، سیاسی و کلامی خاصی که در قرن سوم هجری در عالم اسلام رخ داد، باورهای اولیه‌ی مسلمانان در این زمینه دستخوش تغییر و تحولاتی شد که نهایتاً پس از دو قرن، یعنی در قرن پنجم هجری، این انگاره را به صورتی که ما امروز می‌شناسیم شکل داد.
