Although few doubt Freud's high status among the great and modern Western thinkers, the relationship of his ideas to philosophy is not yet fully clear. In "Freud as Philosopher: Metapsychology After Lacan", Richard Boothby reads the views of Freud and Lacan from the viewpoint of Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, and other modern philosophers and restores the philosophical position and dignity of Freudian metapsychology. Boothby re-evaluates Freud's theory and proves that the tremendous influence of his work on philosophy has been unjustly silenced until now due to its misinterpretations.
