«خود کشف نشده» کتابی است مشتمل بر ۷ فصل که در ابتدا از کمونیسم و حکومتی که در شوروی برقرار است به تندی انتقاد می کند. در فصل های دوم به بعد از نقش خود فرد در جامعه سخن گفته و این که فرد به جای این که تفکر توده‌ای داشته باشد و به این و آن بپیوندد، باید خود را شناخته و طبق شعور ناخودآگاه خود عمل کند. به نظر کارل گوستاو یونگ، هر علمی حد و حدودی دارد و نباید از آن حدود تجاوز کرد مثل روانشناسی که وقتی رابطه دو طرفه پزشک و مریض بیش از حد می شود کار خراب می شود و صورت ذهنی و خیالی به خود می گیرد. برای همین است که هم روحانیون مسیحی و هم ماده گراها به جای صرف وقت جهت راهنمایی فرد فرد جامعه سعی می کنند توده ها را به سمت خود بکشند و پس از حل شدن آن ها در خود می توانند هر کاری می خواهند بکنند. ولی مذهب با نمونه سازی می تواند این مشکل را حل کند.
