In this research, according to the nature of the subject, the research method is descriptive-analytical. In this way, the researcher first describes the state of governments, ruling forces, their conflict to gain power, the bases of legitimacy, and their legitimizing patterns, then analyzes those bases, patterns, and their roots. Of course, in a way that beyond this description and analysis, the evolution of the foundations of the legitimacy of governments can be seen. But next to the secondary question of this research, which is to explain the characteristics of legitimizing patterns in the periods under discussion, the final goal is to answer the main question.

در این پژوهش باتوجه‌ به ماهیت موضوع، روش تحقیق توصیفی – تحلیلی است. بدین‌ترتیب که پژوهشگر ابتدا وضع حکومت‌ها، نیروهای حاکم، درگیری ایشان برای کسب قدرت، مبانی مشروعیت و الگوهای مشروعیت‌سازشان را توصیف کرده، سپس به تحلیل آن مبانی، الگوها و ریشه‌های آنها می پردازد. البته به‌گونه‌ای که از ورای این توصیف و تحلیل، تحول مبانی مشروعیت حکومت‌ها مشاهده شود. اما در کنار پرسش فرعی این پژوهش یعنی تبیین ویژگی های الگوهای مشروعیت‌ساز در دوره‌های مورد بحث، هدف نهایی پاسخ به پرسش اصلی است.
